Inspiring Futures in Brighton with MetLife UK & Inspiring Girls UK
We had a motivating day at Longhill High School in Brighton last week, where Inspiring Girls UK partnered with MetLife UK to deliver an empowering session for Year 9 students — all about careers, confidence, and challenging stereotypes.
The session, introduced by Roz Wyllie our UK Campaign Manager at Inspiring Girls, began by sharing the session's mission: helping girls see the endless possibilities ahead of them by connecting them with real-life role models.
Sapna Patel shared who MetLife are and introduced her colleagues, Rebecca Hingley and Olivia Burgess — who spoke about their roles and how they came to work at MetLife.
Olivia helped students think differently about technology in “Let’s Talk About Tech”, and Becks sparked curiosity and laughter with a game of “Guess the Profession”, busting myths and preconceptions about jobs and industries.
The students were a lively bunch, full of questions, ideas, and energy — it was good to see some genuine interaction and curiosity throughout the session.
One of the most powerful moments was the round-table career speed networking sessions, where students spoke directly with the MetLife team about their own journeys and listened to students' hopes for the future.
Here’s what the students had to say about what they had learned during the session:
“AI isn't as scary as it is portrayed – and teamwork is amazing.”
“I learnt you can explore options or jobs.”
“You can do anything if you put your mind to it.”
“Learnt to get creative.”
“I have learnt that teamwork and communication helps.”
“AI won't take over the world and there are cool jobs.”
“You don't need glue to make things!”
“You don’t have to know what you want to do right now.”
These voices say it all. The future is bright — and it belongs to them.
Huge thanks to the team at Longhill for hosting us, and to our brilliant MetLife UK role models for sharing your time and stories with such energy and honesty.
